Active Injury Management was established in 1994 by Derek Thomas. Derek identified a gap in the rehabilitation services provided to injured workers, from acute Physiotherapy treatment to the return to work phase.

Active Injury Management began as an occupational rehabilitation consulting service. Due to growth in the Occupational Health industry, Derek Thomas purchased Southside Physiotherapy Clinic as an adjuct to the services already provided by Active Injury Management later that same year. Active Injury Management also provides ergonomics consultancy and risk management to industry
